Pool Side Reflections: November 2019

Questions: Why Must I Suffer? Why Did This Happen? Etc.

Gonna start out today by asking some questions that over the years I have asked and maybe you have too. Here’s a few of them:

Why must I suffer?

Why did this happen to me?

Why does God allow calamities like war, and earthquakes, and fires, and floods, and famines to happen?

Why does He permit evil to triumph in the world? I mean, doesn’t He realize what’s going on?

These and other questions along with anxious thoughts and perplexing problems have troubled the children of God in every culture and in every age. Job, perhaps the proverbial cross bearer, was a striking example.

Throughout the Psalms others, like him, have cried out: “How long will you forget me Oh, Lord? How long will you hide your face from me?” And even though the full answer to troublesome questions may never be fully known here on Earth, Scriptures do give a soul-satisfying explanation. That answer tells us, and should convince us, that behind the dum unknown, God stands within the shadows of our lives keeping watch over his own. It says that:

“…in everything God works for the good of those who love him.”

Romans 8:28

Now you see, I guess we either believe and trust in what God says; and upon doing that find council and comfort, or, remain in the quandry of the unknown. I have found that God has always spoken comfort to my troubled soul. If you haven’t already, give it a try.

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Jake
